Action Based Research

The kairos for the article, Action Based Research, is when the author, Jethro Pettit describes his own and his students experiences in the master’s program. Pettit talks about what he has found and helps to give the audience a better understanding of what action based research is. The kairos is significant because that’s when the audience gets further understanding for action based research.

Action Research: An alternative approach to bringing about changes in knowledge, policy, and practice
Participatory Methods: Interaction between someone and the subject
Reflective Practice: Learning about everything after fully understanding yourself first.
Cooperative Inquiry: Learning a subject by interacting with those who are already knowledgeable of the subject.

Pettit's argument was that in order for you to fully understand something it must be through action based research. Pettit states it is much easier to learn about a subject by interacting with the source personally through own experience rather then getting it second hand.

The difference between conventional and action research is action research you find out by conducting your own new research and conventional you're using research already found by others. This is significant because change is always constant. you cant rely on old research to stay the same.

To co-create and mobilize knowledge for change, means to gain and discuss new knowledge with others everyday.

I could use the article Action Based Research while completing my current research essay by not only using articles and webpages i find on the internet as sources for information but to get new information by actually looking and discussing it with professionals to get the most current information on my topic.

Responding To Student Writing

Responding to Student Writing is a very, in my opinion, useful and knowledgeable piece written by Nancy Sommers . Throughout the article it is advised how you should go about revising and editing student’s papers. Sommers also points out what teachers are doing incorrectly when revising their students essays. Nancy makes a lot of good points that teachers should be using and focusing on instead of what they are now. Nancy points out how the organization and structure of the essay is more important than grammar and punctuation mistakes a student might make. One thing I thought was very important was how she said by editing I persons paper too much you’re taking away their voice basically. So instead of changing their entire paper and making it into something they like to just leave notes and comments of what you think would better the paper. That’s something I’ve felt first hand, My senior year of high school I entered a writing contest my teacher made. I took my paper to a previous reading teacher so he could revise and edit as necessary. When he returned it to me he changed a lot more than  my grammar like I expected him to he basically changed my whole story! Good thing I’m as stubborn as I am and did not follow his guideline because I ended up winning with my original story.  I think more English teachers should take a look at this article they could learn a thing or two.

Week two

As you all have already read my topic for this semester is dangers of weight-loss supplements. When choosing a topic you always have to think, can I write about this topic and do projects on it for one entire semester? Or do you care about the topic enough to not get bored midway. The dangers of taking weight-loss supplements are important to me because, unfortunately I have gone through it first-hand. When I was thinking of a topic to choose I thought it would be really helpful to speak through some of my own personal experiences to show you what can happen to an average person. I was in a hard sport in high school, wrestling. Making weight was crucial and taking weight-loss pills and laxatives or water pills was the only way to make it sometimes. I would have never thought I would be suffering till this day because of it. You don’t have to be in sports to take these sort of supplements though there are many men and woman who take them daily to look a certain way. What do you think is more important? To be healthy or to look good, well until you harm yourself with all those harmful side effects. So you would just end up being over- weight and weighting on a liver transplant at the end of it. Yeah I would prefer to do it the healthy way and not take those supplements also.

Have a good day, and remember to always put your body first!
